A truly indispensable app for browsing the folder tree of your SD card is the ASTRO File Manager. It’s fast, powerful, has all the features you would expect… it even includes image, text file and HTML viewers.
Only problem : the search box is total crap.

Reading eBooks

I’ve been experimenting with using the Magic as an eBook reader and I’m impressed. I clearly won’t part with my dead-tree books any time soon but it’s really not as bad as I thought it would be. The best Android app for reading eBooks I have found so far is FBReader which is well done and very configurable. The format of choice is ePub and you will find tons of free ones at http://www.feedbooks.com

If you read eBooks in a foreign language, don’t forget to install one of the many nice dictionary apps (I like WordMate) !

Very simple tip : long press on the “home” button at any time and you’ll get a pop-up menu with the 6 most recent applications you have used. Especially useful when switching back and forth between two apps.

Hello all ! I am starting this blog because I recently acquired an HTC Magic and would like to share some.of my experiences. As an incorrigible nerd, I am trying to get the most out of my new gizmo. As I learn the the various joys and pains of the device, I’ll be posting here to report back on what I feel is interesting for other Magic owners.
By the way, I’ll be writing posts directly from the phone (using wpToGo from the Market) in the double effort of keeping post-length down as well as training my thumbs to the Android keyboard.
